A key aspect of the Delhi Citizen’s Memory project is to organize talks by old time residents of Delhi who offer a narrative of the place and times that they resided in. This series of talks by old time residents and observers of the city describes Delhi in bygone days, both from its urban and rural neighbourhoods. The events are held at Ambedkar University Delhi, Kashmere Gate campus.
Speakers so far include,
Lala Narain Prasad (CA, Educationist, Photographer, Chandni Chowk)
R V Smith (Writer, Journalist, Kashmere Gate resident for five decades)
Naseem Mirza Beg Changhezi (centenarian, WWII veteran, Pahari Imli resident)
Prem Chand Shastri 'Panditji' (Nigambodh Ghat Residents Association)
Dhruvo N Chaudhuri (Photographer, Mori Gate resident)
Yousuf Saeed (Film maker, Art Historian, resident of Batla House)
Besides talks, this series of events also brings performers and artists who incorporate older Delhi traditions in their creative expression to exhibit their take on Delhi’s culture, politics and society. Such events include,
Dastangoi Performance by Ankit Chadha . Venue: Ghat No. 15 , Nigambodh Ghat on the banks of Yamuna. Date: 4th April, 2014. Followed at 7:30 p.m by Pt. Prem Chand Sharma, a senior resident of the Nigambodh Ghat, conducting the traditional Yamuna Aarti on the banks of the Yamuna.
A photo exhibition series has also been put up in a few locations - Lalit Kala Akademi and India International Centre - depicting memories of Delhi as seen in personal photographic collections from early twentieth century to the present.
A photo signage has also been installed at the Yamuna bazaar at Nigambodh ghats that depicts the same location from 6 decades ago and an event to engage the community that lives around it was also organised.
